Dispatch w.38.2017
Cheers, it’s Friday!
Back from London with all my British jargon; Cheers, the Loo, Rubbish, Lift, Flat White, Queue and so much more. Robin absolutely loves me returning with a short-lived British enhanced vocabulary at home. I would be happy to take out the rubbish sweetie as soon as I use the loo and make a long black or maybe a flat white.
Here are just a few pictures from our trip, click on each for more details. You can see more on Instagram at @terrystorch or @alanvgeorge
A great trip visiting with the Church Online community and leaders, as well as many of our friends including HTB and Hillsong Church. One of the pictures above is from the Church of England Church House. So excited to share more in the future about what's to come.
LEARN AND GROW LIST
Do you have a learn and grow list? A list of people that have gone before you that are better, smarter and wiser than you?
You should!
And more than just having the list, you need to be actively scheduling the time to meet and learn from these people.
“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” – Jim Rohn
The learn and grow list is critical for us all. Right now I have 19 people on my list, ranging from pastors to CEO’s, tech entrepreneurs to retirees, as well as fathers I highly respect. I have a personal goal to meet with one of these individuals every other week, in person on the phone or video chat.
My pastor sums this up well:
"Everyone ends up somewhere, but few people end up somewhere on purpose." - Craig Groeschel
A learn and grow list is a great tool or strategy to add into your leadership belt so you end up somewhere on purpose. Challenge yourself to take inventory of your top priorities and map that to a list of people who have gone before you, who you can learn from. If it’s 59, 19, 9 or starting with 1, great! The most important is simply act, get time on your calendar with them, get to know them, ask questions...and learn!
"In today’s generation, our lives have become so instantaneous that anything requiring patient perseverance can appear unattractive. We require instant returns and instant results. But sometimes the biggest pay-offs are a long time coming." - Nicky Gumbel
RECOMMENDED WEEKEND READS
Taking care of yourself is not being selfish! Yep, that’s the title of a GREAT article I recommend you read this weekend. Neil breaks down some very practical examples of how to regain 3 hours into your day and use them correctly. If you have followed me for any amount of time, you know I regularly stand on my soapbox and tell you to INVEST IN YOURSELF. Start now, read this article.
I read and recommended this a while back...and figured I would share it again. In light of the above article - here is a connected theme for you - Stop Consuming, and Start Producing. Robin and I talk about this often, moving from a consumer to a creator is a must in our society today. We are made in the image of the most masterful creator, who designed and created us to create! Take control today and reduce your consuming, and start creating. Finish this email, put your phone down - and create something.
MUSIC
Let me just start out as controversial as you can get, and name the greatest rock n roll band of all time. Well, maybe there could be more controversy in the religious or political spectrum, but you won’t drag me into those pits! Led Zeppelin. Greatest. Ever. So, if I lost you there, well, sorry, you are wrong. Anyway, on my flight to London I reconnected with:
Led Zeppelin, Physical Graffiti
Just Brilliant. Nothing else to say.
Greta Van Fleet, Black Smoke Rising
A young, new band to release their debut EP. WOW, WOW. WOW. These kids are a modern take on Zeppelin, with a touch of Black Keys, Jack White, and Live. I can not stop listening.
Foo Fighters, Concrete and Gold
Yes! Dave Grohl (48) and crew keep putting out amazing stuff. Concrete and Gold is no exception. A unique direction with this album, but if you're a Foo fan, there will be plenty you will fall in love with. My favorites are Run and La Dee Da. The album does feature Paul McCartney, Timberlake, Shawn Stockman, of Boyz II Men and more. Easy to be critical of parts, but it’s a winner in my book.
I would love to know what you're listening to. Hit reply and let me know whats in your rotation this week.
Hillsong United, Wonder
This album just keeps getting better. I loved it when it came out, and think I like it better every time I listen!
Thanks for reading! Have a great week,
Terry
