Dispatch w.19.2018
As I am typing this, I am on my way back from London. The last few days I was able to attend the Leadership Conference hosted by Alpha as well as a separate gathering of leaders called GLeN (The Global Leaders Network). It was a great trip that included time with some of our global YouVersion partners and forging new relationships as well.
Nicky Gumbel interviewing John Maxwell
Something worth sharing is some of the brilliant leadership insights and nuggets that John Maxwell dropped. We had the opportunity to spend time with John in a small setting with the GLeN group, hear him from the main stage of the conference, as well as some one-on-one conversation at a post-conference gathering. John is brilliant when it comes to leadership principles and has such a way with words. His books 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership and Developing the Leader within You have left a lasting impact on my life.
How to be a leader: (main points from his conference talk)
Value people
Think of ways to add value to people
Look for ways to add value to people
Do things that add value to people
Encourage others to add value to people
Five things to remember as an emerging leader (small gathering discussion)
Connect with people, don’t direct them
Remember: Leaders never cross the finish line alone
The most challenging part of leading is leading yourself
Remember: This is ALWAYS the case
Grow intentionally every day
Remember: Growth only comes when we are intentional.
Love people and add value to them every day.
Remember: When you stop loving people stop leading them.
Live life with a generous spirit.
Remember: God won’t give us something that won’t flow through us.

BRYAN STEVENSON
Another speaker at the Leadership Conference that blew me away was Bryan Stevenson. Bryan is the author of Just Mercy and the executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative. He delivered a powerful and moving talk about Justice. He challenged us with four solutions we must focus on.
Get proximate
Change the narratives
Stay hopeful
Willing to do the inconvenient and uncomfortable
While watching Bryan from the Royal Albert Hall I had his new book Just Mercy shipped to my office. I plan on reading it soon.
I have not watched this Ted Talk, but I am sure it excellent.
We need to talk about injustice.
BITCOIN TIDBITS
it’s been a while since I have shared some Bitcoin news and tidbits. That is not because I have lost interest, it’s just I have not really run across much I though you would find interesting or worthy. But, here are a few things worth reading.
