On March 20th, the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network released it’s 8th World Happiness Report (download it). The report is a very robust 136 pages spanning many topics and issues facing our world today. I found the report fascinating; seeing how Government affects happiness, massive impacts of digital media, big data, and addiction in America. There is a lot of information in those 136 pages, however I highly recommend at least downloading it and reading chapter 5, which discusses digital media. - Download
On Monday, Apple held a highly anticipated event that ultimately led to 4 key announcements: Apple News+, Apple Pay (Credit Card), Apple Arcade, and Apple TV+. Most of the anticipation was around Apple TV... but, honestly, what was there to announce? Apple TV has ultimately been a failure for years, was this going to be the big savior? I personally don’t think so, however, you can watch an 8-minute summary of the 1hr 55min event here. I am most intrigued by the Apple Pay update, which includes the Apple Credit Card.
With the decline of iPhone sales, Apple is trying to solve its revenue problems. If you remember, 2019 Q1 iPhone sales were down 15%. The long term play to solve this problem is subscription services which is an attempt to monetize the 2 billion iPhones that have been sold since 2007. So, it makes sense to launch four new subscription services, and I expect to see more coming from Apple to feed the bottom line revenue.
I wrote about it a few weeks ago, because it’s a big deal...Boeing. There has been much discussion about both the company and the 737 Max. The Daily Podcast had a great episode called Two Crashes, a Single Jet: The Story of Boeing’s 737 Max. Tuesday of this week, China announced a big deal with Airbus, Boeing’s only competitor. Boeing continues to scramble to address this issue publically as well as technically. FAA 'Tentatively' Approves Software Update for the Grounded Boeing 737 Max 8, and we will see how things progress in the next few months. I have my eye on Congress and what will happen with the FAA/Boeing relationship. I'm also interested in the 737 Max open vs canceled orders. This article is a bit frightening, and actually what causes my concern about canceled orders.
