The message of Easter is that God's new world has been unveiled in Jesus Christ and that you're now invited to belong to it. - N.T. Wright
Happy Good Friday!!! While you’re receiving this on Good Friday, I actually wrote it days before. It’s just how my “flow” works these days. Many of you have asked about the dispatch frequency, so let me cover it right now. When I started years ago, I wrote weekly and then transitioned to every other week. Now, monthly is the best option for me due to changes in both personal and work rhythms. There might be a day when I get back to writing and distributing weekly or bi-weekly, but for now, expect to receive a Friday dispatch about once a month.
I appreciate all the emails about my mom. If you missed it, she was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2020. She had surgery and started chemotherapy earlier this year. She is about halfway through her chemo treatments, and while she is doing okay, it is pretty rough! But, my mom’s a fighter, and she is getting through it. We’re all looking forward to getting on the other side of this challenging season. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. I’m confident she’ll come out on the other side of this stronger and ready to live a full life!
Lane change. (Pun intended.) F1 is back! For you Americans, F1 is Formula 1 racing. Last weekend was the opening race in 2021 that was held in Bahrain, which is a country in the Middle East. If you’re not into F1 or don’t know much about it, I highly recommend watching the Netflix series Drive to Survive. I have really fallen in love with the sport! I love the strategy, the drama, and of course, the technology. It’s also pretty cool that Robin enjoys it as well.
Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it. He who doesn't, pays it. -Albert Einstein
If you’ve followed this dispatch for any period of time, you know I’m passionate about investing and financial stewardship. A few weeks back, I held a 401k strategy and financial stewardship class for all of my under 30 team members. It was crazy—nearly 30 people attended! While it’s geared for the “under 30” crowd, a handful over 30 attended as well. (It’s never too late to learn and start investing!) We covered the basic principles of 401k investing and walked through all the benefits that are afforded to us through our employer. I taught them about compound interest, the difference between investing and trading, and encouraged them to be patient and disciplined in this realm. If you’re not maximizing your retirement plan, then please stop reading this dispatch. It’s time to dive into your budget, make a plan, and get your house in order. (No, seriously. Stop reading! Start making a plan to invest!)

The NFT craze is in full effect in the investing, trading, and gambling arena. NFT you ask? Yep...non-fungible tokens. Still lost? I get it. It’s a bit complicated and strange. NFTs are digital tokens tied to assets that can be bought, sold, or traded. Things like art, digital sneakers, collectibles, Jack’s first Tweet ever and more. Digital artist Beegle sold a piece of art as an NFT for sixty-nine million dollars! Time has an interesting article if you want to learn more. Who knows where NFTs will head, but there is no doubt they will be with us for a while. With this craze and new trend, I think it’s important to always have a balanced perspective of investing and trading, so make sure you check out Mr. Mustache’s Beware of the Bubble and all these new trends. I always value his opinion when I am trying to forge my own.
I recently received my second Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine shot. I’m thankful that my side effects were minimal. After my first shot, I had a pretty sore arm for a few days. After my second shot, I had early onset flu-like symptoms for a few hours, but that was it. It’s pretty amazing how great I feel now moving around at work and within the community because I’m no longer concerned that I’ll catch Covid. I’ve been very protective of other people’s health, especially my mother’s. The vaccination process is going very well here in the United States. According to the CDC, we could see 50% of our country vaccinated by May and 70% by June. I’m hopeful more and more people continue to get vaccinated in order to slow the spread of the virus and gain herd immunity. We will get through this!
