A few weeks ago I opened a door and asked if you would be among the first to join me in something new.

Some of you did. You put an early, still-forming app on your phone, trusting my word that it was real and that it held. You lived with it while a few surfaces were unpolished and I was still deciding what stays and what gets cut. I started calling you forerunners: the first ones in, going on ahead so the path would be a little more known for everyone who comes after.

Today the door opens to everyone. becoming is now live on Apple’s App Store, available to anyone with an iPhone. The door that was open only to you is open to everyone.

First, thank you. Your honest eyes did real work. You found bugs I would not have caught on my own, flagged copy that was off, and named things I had missed entirely. Because of you, I closed out dozens of bugs and issues over these last few weeks. becoming is steadier and clearer now because you were willing to use it early and tell me the truth about it. becoming is a companion for the apprenticeship of everyday life with Jesus, and its one job is the carry: taking what God stirs in you in the morning and helping it travel throughout the rest of your day, into both the work and the people in front of you.

Being with Jesus. Becoming like Jesus. Doing what Jesus would do if He were me.

I hope, some mornings, it did the one thing I built it to do. Dallas Willard kept saying the main thing God gets out of a life is not what we accomplish, but who we become. That is the whole point of this, and I am grateful you take it seriously with me.

It’s still early, and still forming. A few surfaces are unpolished, and there are still some bugs I’m working through. It may never do everything I have imagined. But it’s real, and it holds, and because so many of you came in early, it’s ready now to hand to people who need it a little further along.

Maybe you saw that first invitation a few weeks ago and let it pass. That’s alright, and nothing was missed. The becoming you’d open today is more finished than the one the forerunners first stepped into, steadier and clearer because of the weeks they put in.
